Wiring question about adding a ceiling fan?
I want to add a ceiling fan (without lights) in my garage. I don't need a wall switch, but will just use the pull chain switch on the fan.
The electric garage door opener is mounted near where I want to hang the fan, and from the attic I can see that the ceiling mounted outlet that serves the opener is on its own circuit. I confirmed this by flipping breakers.
The opener outlet is wired with yellow sheathed (12 gauge?) that runs to a 20amp breaker.
The opener is rated 6amp and the fan 8amp.
Should I simply run a few more feet of 12 gauge to the fan box and wire it in line to the opener outlet?
I've replaced many fixtures, but never added a new fixture and just don't want to overload anything.
Thanks for any feedback!
