LED can light does not come on instantly

I installed an LED can light in my stairwell, but it takes a second or two after flipping the switch to come on. Never had an LED, but can't imagine that's normal. Any advice on this?

Yes... that could be normal depending on what the bulb or fixture is using for a power supply.

An incompatible dimmer inline could also cause issues.

What do you mean? Is there a way to fix that? A dark stairwell is not a good place for a slow light.

Some bulbs come right on. That would require a bulb change.

If you bought the can and light as a kit... what is the brand and model number.

Well what I did was, the night before the plasterer was coming, I realized I hadn't swapped out the old fixture in the stairwell. I didn't have a can on hand, but I did have a retrofit kit. So I just cut a hole in the drywall, and mounted the retrofit into the hole. I snipped the socket off and connected the wires to the existing power. Last minute improvise.
