Dimmable fixtures?

What is required for dimmable lights?

As I understand it, the only things that are absolutely required are a dimmer switch, possibly a dimmable transformer if using low-voltage LED strip light (for example), and dimmable bulbs.

Are there such things as dimmable fixtures / non-dimmable fixtures?

Old style fluorescent fixtures that use tubes and have built in magnetic ballasts require special ballasts, wiring, and switches.
