Ceiling Fan Wiring Connection

Hello,

Need help on wiring connection on my ceiling fan. I have 4 wires coming out of my ceiling box, White-Black-Red-Green and Bare Copper Wire. My ceiling fan has White-Black-Blue and Green. I have connected Black/Black, White/White, Green/Green/Bare copper wire and lastly Red/Blue wire connection. Lighting from the ceiling fan works but nothing the fan motor. Could somebody tell me if I did the right connection. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums! Are you sure sure the green wire comes from the cable from the ceiling, or is it connected to the metal box? Normally there would only be a black, red, white and bare wire. Check your switch location and let us know how the wiring is attached at that point. It is possible one of the wires is capped off and is not used. Remove the power before you pull the switch from the box.

3 Way Switch with No Hope in Sight

Hi Everyone, I have a set of 3 way switches that have kicked my butt. I feel like I have tried every combination possible and still do not have any light. I have 2 switches for my back porch lights, 1 in Master bedroom, 1 in the living room. I used my cheapo multimeter to determine which wire is "always hot" in box 1. Box 1 is the 1st picture. The black wire connected to the dark screw is the "common" terminal. The other black and red wire are from the same cable (Romex?) which are connected to the "traveler/brass" terminals. The second picture is box 2. Initially, there was a white wire loose in the junction box, which I wire nutted with the other white wires. The top red wire on the right is the only wire from that cable (black wire is nutted with another black wire in the top left, white wire is nutted with the other whites). The other red and black cable are from the same cable with the white nutted off. I have no clue what is wired incorrectly....please help!!!!Read More

Can I hardwire a light fixture with 18 awg?

I bought a hanging lamp/chandelier while traveling for work overseas. I believe the wiring on it currently is 16-2 gauge, black. I have identified the hot and neutral wires. My wife loves the lamp and would like to have it wired in to replace the ceiling light fixture in her home office. She is not fond of the black wiring it came with and wondered if there was a way to use thinner wire. Given the following about the hanging lamp/chandelier: 1) 4 sockets 2) each socket is for a 15-25 watt decorative bulb My questions are: 1) Is it safe and legal to rewire the lamp/chandelier with 18-2 awg? 2) Is it safe/legal to hardwire this lamp/chandelier into my wife's home office light ceiling socket with either the current/existing 16-2 gauge wire the lamp/chandelier has or if I were to re-wire it to 18-2 gauge wire?
