Confused About Ground Wire? Please Help!

I just installed a new ceiling light fixture. There was nothing hanging there before so I can't compare it to an old wiring. The room has two switches and I think wired for a two way ceiling fan (where one switch could control the light and one switch controls the fan). At the light switches one switch has a black and yellow wire connected and one switch has a black and red wire connected.

Coming out of the ceiling is two white wires bundled together with a 3rd "arm", two black wires bundled together, one red, and one yellow. My pendant has one white wire, one black wire, and two separate yellow/green ground wires. I connected the black pendant wire to the ceiling yellow wire, the white wire to white wire and it works. I had tried different combinations but this was the only configuration that works and where I can switch the light on and off with the switch that has a black and yellow wire connected. I'm just confused about the ground wires from the pendant and where to connect? The building was built in 2001 so I would think it would have ground wires but there are no green or bare wires coming out of the ceiling.

Welcome to the forums.

You don't have an actual ground wire since you have a metal conduit system. If you look in the back of the box you may see a tapped hole for a ground screw. If not... you can attach the ground wires to one of the box screws or use a fixture bar with a ground screw.

Welcome to the forums! Nowhere in the brown ceiling box is there a grounding/green wire? Are the wires fed into the box via armored cable or conduit, or non metallic cable? You are correct in your connections and the use of the red wire for the other switch for a potential fan, and capping it off as you have done.

Edit: I see that is a metal box, so what Pete says goes. Your ground is via the conduit. I was thinking it was a brown bakelite box, which wouldn't make much sense.

thanks for the response! here is a pic of inside the box. There are two little screws in there, so I can just wrap the ground wire around one of those? Or is that not what you meant? sorry just want to make sure it's all safe and I'm learning all this new!Name: photo 1(4).jpg
