Okay so my wife was cleaning out the ferret cage and pulled on the fan chain to turn up the speed. Something happened and there was a shift and now the fan seems to be sticking a bit out of the ceiling.
Now this is making me nervous but I don't exactly have time during the day tomorrow to do something about this and I have no money to call an electrician. What do?
I am busy at work during the day and I'm dead tired. I guess I could try to take it down but I have no experience with this sort of thing and nobody in the family can help until Saturday. Is this going to be okay until then? Or am I likely going to have to do something about it before then? Should I even leave it until morning?

The only safe thing is to remove the fan and investigate. The canopy at the top is held by two or four screws and slides down the rod. At the very least don't use the fan till the problem has been found. Maybe wedge a stepladder under the fan till you can check it out.

After you remove the fan, determine if the box has come loose. Most likely the box is not fan rated and needs to be replaced with a fan rated box attached directly to the joist adjacent to it, or via use of a spanner bar for ceiling fans.
