Outdoor Lamp Post Light Keeps tripping GFI-help!

I assume I have a cut in the underground wire that leads from the house to the lamp post. I have replaced the light sensor but the GFI still trips when I turn the light switch on that controls it. Need some suggestions. The wire is buried and I have an irrigation system, flower beds, and paver wall between the house and post. My guess is to run a new wire from house to post. How do I attach wires to switch in house??? Or do I put new switch in garage and wire from there?? Help/suggestions would be great. Thanks

A light does not need to be GFCI protected but since it is on a GFCI and it is tripping that means you have a problem that needs correcting.
How do I attach wires to switch in house?
Assuming power comes in at the switch the hot wires are connected using the screws on the switch and the two neutrals are wire nutted only to each other.
do I put new switch in garage and wire from there?
Wherever there is a power source and is easiest.
