Fan rated electrical box?

Fan rated electrical box?

Hi, this is my first post and I've browed several older posts this morning on the same topic. Can someone give me an opinion on whether this electrical box will be suitable for ceiling fan installation? I plan on doing three rooms (all identical set up) so I was hoping to get away without replacing the boxes. As you can see from the photos, the support brace seems to be only attached to each joist with one nail or screw. That is my first concern. Also, the box does wiggle a little bit when pushed side to side around the axis of the support brace. Thoughts? The house was built in 1978 and I believe these are original.

That's not fan rated,but you can buy the correct one that would fit into place,it will adjust to fit between the joists,it's actually used for old work installations.

Thanks! I am working on taking the old one out now. Have the correct piece to put in, just was hoping to get by without the extra work. Better to do it right the first time though...

Good thinking.

I don't carry a camera on me when working or I could show you some interesting ceiling fan failures.
BX cable can hold up a ceiling fan.

Fan rated boxes can't allow the fan attachment screws to be placed solely through the ears. They must have additional attachment method, as shown in these images. The screw size is also increased.
