Ceiling Fan Box

I am trying to install a ceiling fan in a bedroom where there is only a ceiling box cover. I can't read what it says on the box so I was hoping somebody here could tell me if I have a ceiling fan box.

It look's like it may be a fan box,are the other threaded holes larger (should be)than the ones holding the bar? Also if you can get above the box you may be able to determine for sure.

Welcome to the forums.

For the life of me I can't understand the thought process about allowing plastic boxes to be rated fan duty and used for heavy loads.

I won't install a fan on any plastic box.

You'll need to remove the bar and pull the wires out of the box in order to read what is printed there.

if the 2 unused mounting holes take a 10-32 machine screw.than it is a fan box. use the 10-32 screws to hang the fan.

In many cases they are 10-24 not 10-32 but either is okay.

You also need to determine how the box is mounted to the framing.

Since there is no visible means of mounting then it must be a nail-on box.
