old electrical wiring to new
Hey everyone, I'm doing a bathroom remodel and have come across some old Romex wiring that's 12AWG but with a 16 AWG ground wire. The old wiring is heading into our bedroom and serves the overhead light and, I'm assuming, the outlets. Is it ok to splice this old wiring and my new wires together? The new wire is also 12AWG Romex, but it has 12 AWG wiring. If it is ok to connect the two grounds, do I do it like any other splice with a wire nut and pigtail to a grounding screw in the junction box? THANKS for your help!!

Could you post a picture of this Romex so we can see what you see. Reduction in size of some grounding wires is normal, but not to the degree you indicate.
In addition, your bathroom wiring cannot extend to any other rooms except for stacked or adjacent bathrooms. You may need to run a new circuit anyway.
