Do low-voltage LED bulbs always need an enclose fixture?

I want to add some low-voltage lighting under the eave of my garage to flood the face of the wall below and wondered if LED bulbs always require a weatherproof fixture?

LED's are available in any type of lighting style you can think of.
You can get LED weatherproof light strips. LED's now come on a roll where you could stick them under the eave and you'd never see it.

In the link is tape LED's. A 16' piece of tape with a constant repeating pattern of red, blue and green LED's. You can set the control for almost any color.
