Wiring light fixture to dimmer switch

Hello everyone, I thought I'd be able to find the answer to my question with a simple Google search but I was surprised to find this to be difficult to answer.

I was trying to connect a new light fixture to a dimmer switch. When I was removing the old light fixture, the weight of the light caused the wires to be disconnected before I could take note of how it was wired. I was left with the power cable (black, white, ground), and another cable going to the dimmer (also white black and ground).

I removed the dimmer switch faceplate to see if that would give any hints and dimmer has two black wires and a green, black connected to black, black connected to white and green to ground.

Can someone please explain or point me to a site that explains how to wire the new light?

Dimmer

Your post is confusing.

Where does the power cable enter? At the light, or at the dimmer?

Post photos of the wires at the ceiling box and at the switch box.

If you have just a black and white wire connected to the dimmer and no other wires in the switch box you would wire it as a switch loop. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/li...rt-images.html

Sorry, the power comes in where the light fixture is installed, and there's a cable that runs from the dimmer switch up to the light fixture. It seems like the switch loop would be correct. I'm going to try that out. Thanks.
