Chandelier has two fabric covered yellow wires - which one is hot?

The yellow fabric on one of the wires is solid yellow, the other is yellow with a black/brown thread interwoven throughout. How do I know which is the hot and which is the neutral wire?

With your analog multi meter (~$10), test each wire to ground. Most likely you will see the one with the brown tracer to be the neutral, but no guarantees.

The neutral or white should show continuity with the bulb shell.

Unscrew all of the bulbs. Test the continuity (meter ohms function) between the loose (unconnected or unhooked) feed wires going into the chandelier stem and the sockets.
