After changing vanity light fixtures the switch doesnt work.

There was a noise and then the switch stopped working. The lights remain on.

What wires were available behind the fixture box? What were the connections you made?

There are
2 white wires connected together
2 black wires connected together
A single red wire with the cap on it.
And a ground wire.

I connected white to white (now there are 3 white wires together), black to black (now there are 3 black wires together) and ground from the box to the ground from the fixture to the green nut of the fixture.

Gently pull out switch from wall. Tell us what wires are attached to switch side terminals and if there are any other wires in the switch box that are not attached to switch.

Resolved. The black wire from the light fixture should have been wired to the red wire from the box.

Thanks for your help.
