I want to replace two of my light switches and have one switch become an Leviton occupancy switch. However my current wiring is confusing as there a 4 separate electrical wires coming into the electrical box but only 2 switches. 1 switch is also directly connected to the other switch. The attached diagram and pictures shows the current wiring setup. I would like switch 2 to become an occupancy switch and switch 1 to remain a normal Leviton light switch. Of the 4 electrical wires in the box, wires #1, #3, and #4 in the diagram only have a black, white, and bare ground wire, while Wire #2 has black, white, bare ground and red. All four white wires are all connected together with an orange wire connector. The bare copper ground wire in Wire #1 is connected to a screw in the metal box. The bare ground wire in Wire #2 is looped around a screw in the box and then attached to the ground wires of Wire#3 and Wire #4 with an orange wire connector. The only red wire out of all the wires comes from Wire #2 and is connected to the top of Switch 1. The black wires for Wires #1,#2, and #3 are all connected together in an orange coupler and then attached by a separate connector wire to the bottom of Switch 1. Meanwhile the black wire from Wire #4 is connected to the top of Switch 2. The bottom of Switch 2 is then connected directly to the bottom of Switch 1. I have no idea what Wires #1 and Wires #3 are connected to outside the box or if they are even live. In any case, I was looking for instructions on how to wire Switch 2 as an occupancy sensor while leaving Switch #1 as a normal switch. I have a rocking (side to side, not imbalanced) ceiling fan. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos and felt comfortable trying to get in and tighten things up. But once I took the screws out of the canopy that covers the mounting bracket, the fan started to come down. I caught it, called my wife to help, we were able to hold it in place and tighten the loose screws on the bracket, it turned out ok. Here's my question: Everything I see online says that there's supposed to be a ball that fits into the cup in the mounting bracket, and this is what actually supports the weight of the fan, right? There's no ball on mine, the entire fan is held on to the bracket by the four little screws on the canopy. Is something wrong? Do I need to worry? Or are some fans designed this way? The bracket itself was loose, so after tightening that down it's not rocking any more. I'm just worried that it was originally mounted wrong and is dangerous.
