Safe to screw into wall end cap

Is there ever wiring behind a living room wall end cap? I want to mount a small plug in lamp there, but don't want to accidentally hit any wires. There is a switch a couple feet away from it on the same wall....

Whats under the metal? Is it a wood stud or do you mean you have a steel stud at the end. Bottom line don't use screws longer than the thickness of whats at the end if it is a wood stud. Metal stud could have a cable in it

There is the pic. I want to install something on the square end facing out. Is it called a wall end? Anyway, I see the light switch right around the corner. I'm only using 1 or 2 inch screws. Could there be any wiring in that wall end area? I would imagine the switch wiring runs vertically up from the switch, or can it be running out horizontally? This is nyc so anything is possible.
