What are 12/2 and 12/3-Gauge MC Lite Cable used for? if you have a choice of putting these or 14/2 and 14/3 behind walls and ceiling to install light fixtures, which one will you use? what are the risk of install 14/2 and 14/3 in ceiling and walls instead of 12/2 and 12/3?

The size of the cable is dictated by the load.
The type of wire used is dictated by code.

#12 carries 20A and is used in kitchens, laundry rooms, and places of heavy loads.
#14 carries 15A and is used in lighting circuits, bedroom receptacles and places of lighter loads.

MC lite is a metal clad cable with an aluminum cladding/spiral and a continuous insulated ground wire.

If you are located in NYC what you can use is dictated by code. I know EMT is a requirement. Is MC also allowed ?
