Tie Switches Together

I am looking for a contraption to tie two light switches together. I want to force my children to turn on the exhaust fan when they turn on the light - without re-wiring the switch itself. Similar to what you'd see in an electrical panel. Have you heard of such a thing? If so, what is it called? I can rig something up, but would rather not have it look as though I rigged something up.

Welcome to the forums.

In a panel it's called a circuit breaker tie handle. I've never seen one for switches before.

You may be forced to design your own.

I know you said it's not what you want but I would re-wire the switch to turn on both.

A home fashioned switch toggle tie you are thinking of will probably not withstand regular use by children.

If the fan and light were not powered by the same cable coming into the switch box then you could use one double pole switch to control both light and fan and leave an original switch connected to nothing in the other position.
