Another under cabinet LED thread

I was able to pick up a bunch of these style fixtures in 12" and 24".

GE 18 in. UCF Linkable Plug-In LED Light Fixture-10490 - The Home Depot

With these I think you can link up to 10 or 12 (can't remember exactly what the package says). I definitely don't need that many. Anyways... I am not 100% sure of all the codes so I hope that is where you guys will come in. Now these do not have separate transformers, everything is built in, so do I run into code issues for running wires in wall? I technically can't run lamp cord in wall right? So I think I would need to run Romex everywhere in wall.

I plan to replace one of my GFI outlets on the backsplash to a GFI/switch combo unit.

In order to hide the wires, my options are to:

1. Daisy chain all the lights to the GFI/switch combo while running the wires inside the back of the cabinets.

2. Do the same as option 1, except run the power wires through the bottom lip (end edges) of the cabinets, then down to the basement then back up to the box with the GFI/switch combo. With this option, I would have 2 leads in the basement (from 2 runs of lights on either side of the stove) go to a junction box, then run only one lead back up to the switch.

Obviously option 2 is better (I think), what are your opinions?

Correct, you cannot run the cord through the wall.

You could switch the receptacle to one with a switch, but it would still need GFCI protection, and you will loose a place to plug stuff in as the light plug would always be there. If this is not a big deal, then carry on.

Otherwise you could fish into an existing box and install one of these on the bottom of your cabinet: (I think you can get them at the big blue store)
