Ceiling fan dimensions

On a 44 inch ceiling fan with 4.5 inch down rod, typically how close to the ceiling would the blades be?

Also, what would be the minimum distance from walls one would want for good air flow?

My living room is 7x12, and trying to figure out my ideal ceiling fan size to install.

For a room with square footage of 75' - 145' you would use a fan 36" to 44".

So with your square footage of 84' ...... a 44" fan would be good.

Every fan design is different so it's not possible to give you an exact answer of the blade distance from the ceiling but I'd guess 8" - 10".

Thanks PJmax. With a 44 inch, that would give me about 20 inches clearance on each side between the 7 foot wall. Is that enough for good air flow?
