Electronic speed control for whole house fan

Can I use a Broan 6amp 120v speed control on a 1/3hp 1 phase 5.7amp motor, to adjust speed successfully? There is also a timer in this circuit. First time ever on any forum.

Welcome to the forums on your first time.

Even if you were able to use a speed controller on your fan.... 5.7A on a 6A device will run hot.
I haven't seen a speed controller that work well with that type of motor.

Usually a two speed motor is used as many motors will run too hot when the voltage is reduced to them.

Searching for Broan 6amp 120v speed control brings up the page but not a lot of details, still the size and price make it seem unlikely to work.

You need something like this: https://www.anaconsystems.com/text/opti_e1.html

Electronic speed control for whole house fan.

Thanks for the replys, my daughter's fan had a variable "dimmer style" control originally and finally bought the farm, so we replaced it with a 6 amp unit that lasted a year, so I did not want to go down this path again without help. Guess I should look for different motor if she insists on the variable speed. Thanks again for your time and input.
