Determining if my ceiling box is rated for a fan.

Hi all!

Replacing a light fixture with a fan that calls for 35 lbs of support in a fan rated box.

I took pictures of what I have.

The long and short of it is: If there is no 'rated for fan support' sticker on the inside of the box, is it worth researching if the model supports a fan?

All I can make out through the knockdown texture is '9350', which took me to allied moulding. They make several models of 9350, some of which support fans (and have a huge sticker on the inside stating so) and some which do not (no sticker).

The box I have definitely does NOT have a 'fan support' sticker on it, and doesn't have any residue to indicate it did at any time.

Common sense tells me to just man up, pack the kids in the van and make the trip to home depot. BUT, the lazy person in my mind is saying, "but maybe, just maybe!"

Thanks for any assistance!

If the fixture screws are 8-32 it is not fan rated. That hangar bar looks like a non fan rated hanger bar.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation.

Thankfully my local ace has one that should do the trick and will save me an hour trip to home depot!

That's a 9350-BH bar box. Although it's rated for 50lbs.... that's static weight.... not a moving fan.

That bar will be attached to the sides or the bottom of two adjacent joists. It may need to be cut to be bent up and out of the way.
