Ceiling fan base moving

Honestly I don't know anything about ceiling fans, I'm more of a computer person, and my ceiling fan isn't working. When I turn it on I have to spin the blades to make it spin and when they do spin, it's very slow making a grinding sound. For the sound to stop I have to push the blades back a bit, then when the fan is turned on the base and the blades move freely and smoothly no issues until the base stops moving.

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like the blade brackets may have come loose. There are usually two screws that attach the bracket to the motor and three screws from the bracket to the blade.

If the screws that hold the brackets to the motor come loose the brackets can hit the motor or the trim.

ahhhhhhhh goodness I just figured it out haha. Sorry my parents remodeled the house and did not push the base all the way up and locking it in place so the base was sitting on top the of the blade portion in the middle. Thank you for the help though
