lighting options for surface-mount conduit

Hi all,

My basement is unfinished with exposed joists. Electrical is in surface mounted steel EMT conduit. Lighting is just a few bare bulbs at the moment - I would like to add some track lighting between a few of the joists.

What's the best way to make power connections from surface-mounted junction boxes to track lights? I would prefer to mount the light tracks to the joists themselves beside the boxes rather than on top of the boxes (don't want the tracks to be sitting 2 inches off the joists). Is there a way to connect the lights through a junction box's side knock-out?

Most track lighting will offer power feed option that allows you to use flexible MC cable to feed power to the track. That could easily be run to your existing Jboxes. Here's an example:

many brands offer a thicker version that will work with EMT as well.
