Best bulbs for enclosed ceiling lights

We keep our house warm, and have some ceiling light fixtures that are enclosed with poor ventilation and I imagine pretty hot inside. I thought I should use low watt appliance bulbs in them since they can withstand heat. These lights remain on most of the day. Do you see anything wrong with this?

Generally there is a tag inside the light fixture that states the max watt rating. As long as you don't exceed that rating everything should be fine. You can always go to a lower watt bulb but will that give you enough light?

What type ceiling fixtures do you have? Are they recessed lights? You could opt for LED bulbs, get more lumens at a fraction of the heat and cost over time.

Always read the fine print on the ballast for both CFL and LED bulbs. Some are not for enclosed luminaries.
