flourescent light question
I have several 2 bulb fixtures in my work shop. All use 4 foot F34CW bulbs. One fixture has been having trouble when starting. One bulb gets partly bright and the other flickers. Sometimes if I wait long enough they both light brightly. This has been happening for a while, and I've swapped bulbs (from other fixtures), replaced bulbs with new, but this fixture continues to have the same problem. Do I need a new ballast? Any recommendations? Thanks, Steve

Are those F34 T-12 lamps ?
With the reduction of mercury in most all lamps..... they have a harder time starting on the older ballasts.
Probably a good time to upgrade to F32 T-8's and a new ballast. More light with less energy.
The T-8's use the same sockets as the T-12's.

Great info PJ, thanks. Yes, they're T-12 lamps. Any recommendations on a ballast for the T-8 lamps?
Thanks, Steve

You'd want a two tube F-32 T8 electronic ballast.
GE 120-Volt Electronic Ballast for 4 ft. 2-Lamp T8 Fixture-GE232- The Depot

Just a follow up- I installed the new ballast and 2 new T-8 lamps. Everything works great. What I did find was 2 of the wire connections on the "tombstone" lamp sockets were very loose. The wire pulled out without releasing the clip. Is that common? It will be something I'll check if I have any more that act up. Thanks for all the help! Steve
