Help wiring up a new ceiling light & light switch

Hello everyone and thank you very much in advance.

My spouse purchased a new light switch and ceiling light but has been unable to get it to work properly. First only 1 of the 3 lights would work and now nothing seems to be working.

All I want is to be able to use my dining room again.

Here is what I know.

The wiring for our new lamp has ground, white & black.
The wiring in the ceiling has (2x) white together, (2x) black together, (2x) ground together and a single red wire.

The wiring for the light switch has (2x) white together, (2x) black together, (2x) ground together and a single red wire.
My husband bought a light switch with (2x) black screws and (2x) copper screws.

The previous light switch had (1x) blue, (1x) black, (1x) ground & (1x) red that was never connected.

Please let me use my dining room again!

Welcome to the forums.

At the fixture end....
The white of the fixture goes to the 2X white connection.
The black of the fixture goes to the red wire.

At the switch end.....
Take a short piece of black wire that's the same as the wire used in the box. Connect it to 2X black wires and to one screw terminal of the switch.
The remaining red connects to the other screw terminal.

My husband bought a light switch with (2x) black screws and (2x) copper screws.
If this is a standard on/off wall switch..... it should have two screw terminals and ground.
Your description is of a 4 way switch would be incorrect there.

Post the part number on the switch.

The back of the switch has fed. spec. w-s 896
The front of the switch says 120-277 V AC ONLY

I don't know what any of this means so I went to the store and purchased a regular switch with only the two screws.

With your advice the switch & light does work for on and off, but only one of the 3 lights comes on. Maybe i've got a bad fixture? either way. I won't be eating in total darkness!

Thank you again for all your help!!!

UPDATE

Husband came home from work with a different type of LED light and they work for some reason.

You're welcome.

I thought you had three different fixtures.
You have two bulbs out on a three bulb fixture. That is a fixture problem.
