Ceiling fan lights

Hi, I recently bought a condo that only has ceiling fans installed in the bedrooms. I wanted to add some lights to the rooms so I bought a cheap light kit and wired it up per the instructions. However, after wiring everything, the wall switch only works for the fan. Usually the left switch is for the lights/electricity in the room and the right switch is for the fan. Currently, the left switch only controls electricity and the left switch still controls the fan. The light can only be turned on through the pull chain and can be turned on even if both switches are off. How do I wire it so that the left wall switch can control the lights and the right switch controls the fan?

You are going to need to check the connections under the canopy above the motor. The light lead may be wired to the same hot as the fan.
