Bath vent fan

I installed a vent fan awhile back. I was wondering at the time why they had a 2 prong removable plug on the motor. why not just a direct wire set up?? I took out a rusty 40 year old unit. Are you supposed to just replace the motor??

The two prong plug is on the plug for the motor for servicing or replacement.
