Help with replacing a ballast
Hi Everyone,
I have several 2 bulb fluorescent light fixtures with electromagnetic ballasts. I would like to put some of them in my garage. I know that for garage application the ballasts need to be switched out to electric ballasts due to the low temps we get in the winter. My question is, can I simply switch out the existing electromagnetic ballasts with electric ballasts, or is it more complicated than that or is there something else I need to be aware of?
Thanks for the help!
Steve

It's fairly easy converting to electronic ballasts as it usually involves joining the end cap wires together. Thankfully, every ballast has a diagram on it.

I never thought (or knew) you could switch the fixture to LED that easy....and this is the way I'm going to go.

So Ray, regarding price, would you put buying these type of LED tubes in the category of "you get what you pay for?" I've seen quite a variety of prices from as you mention $18-$39, then I have seen places like eBay where a 10pack was going for $70.

I bought mine a year ago and they are still working well. I bought from Amazon but places like Ebay are good also. I bought before Amazon raised the minimum for fee shipping so I didn't pay shipping. Now I would I'd consider Ebay since some sellers offer free shipping. Sometimes the same sellers/product as on Amazon. I'd probably also look at 1000 Bulbs.com but haven't yet. I looked at Home Depot awhile back but wasn't impressed by what they had. Most were ballast only and the price didn't tickle my fancy. Ballasts are one of the key parts to fail so why use a tube that requires one.
