Locate sconces inches from box?

During remodeling, I had my electrician attach lighting boxes against wall studs, but of course now that the vanity is installed, the boss would like the location of the sconces to be "just a couple of inches this way." The location she would prefer is nearly centered over the stud.

Is it possible to do this without opening the wall again?

Pancake boxes are only 1/2" deep. You can attach them directly to the studs and only hog out enough drywall for them to fit. Then you patch the old hole where the old box was. Hopefully there is enough wire to reach the extra couple of inches. Don't you just love when the "boss" wants a change?

If it's directly on a stud, I prefer this type of box. It gives more room for the wires.
