Fluorescent light problem

I just swapped out an old florescent light fixture for a new (new to me, it's used) one. There was nothing wrong with the old one except it was ugly. I took down the old and wired the new using the same connections as it was.

The problem is half of new fixture stays on after you flip the switch off. One bulb turns off right away and the other stays on but is very dim. However, after a few minutes, the light does turn off.

It looks like I installed a night light instead of a ceiling light.

Welcome to the forums.

I have noticed that a lot of fluorescent tubes will remain glowing a minute or so after you remove power. Usually you can only see it in a very dark room.

I wouldn't consider it anything to be concerned with.

If you bought a used fixture perhaps you got one with an "Emergency Ballast" one that will keep one or two tubes (Depending on how it is wired) at a reduced intensity for at least 90mins
