Help identifying these two recessed kitchen lights
Hello,
Our kitchen has two kinds of recessed ceiling lights, which we'd like to be able to fix/maintain ourselves but came with the place so we cannot easily identify them. Can anyone help, and perhaps point us toward good manuals/tip sheets for replacing bulbs and the like?
Here's the first one -- slightly bigger than the second, about 3.5 in. in diameter:
And here is the other, about 2.5 in in diameter. This one appears to have a thin metal strip or clip either over or attached to the bulb:

Given the size, they are likely halogen. The first one looks like an eyeball, perhaps like this:

The second one is probably just a straight down version of the same series.
Halogen lamps usually are pin base, meaning they just pull straight out. You may need to wrap a bit of string around the lamp to get a grip to pull it out.

It looks like the painter was a little sloppy with painting around these trims. The first trim/light will need to come down in order to change the lamp. To remove it you might need to takes a screw driver or knife to break the "seal" of the paint. Then, the trim will pull straight down on spring tension.
The 2nd one you might be able to remove it by removing the spring, otherwise it will come down the same way as the first.

Hi there folks -- resurrecting this old thread with a follow-up question.
We managed to get the clips and bulbs out and find replacement bulbs. Hooray! Then we realized none of them worked. That led us on a bit of a goose chase that we eventually traced to a blown transformer hidden behind our fridge, which we just successfully replcaed.
However -- how is a normal person supposed to get these little bulbs back into position? They were held in position by little spring-style clips (roughly like a cartoon bat/rounded letter "W") that sat over a small glass/plastic circular cover that went over the bulb.
Since the fixtures don't come out fo the ceiling, replacing the bulb by holding the cover in place and getting the clip back on there is pretty tough.

Even with the fixture with the wire clip..... you need to pull down the round trim to make it easier to work on.

That does sound much easier, but I'm not sure how to remove it. (This is the one in the second photo below.) How are they typically removed?
