Ceiling fan motors - dying
Hey all, I've replaced an old ceiling fan (w light kit), because the old fan was moving incredibly slowly, more so than it would normally on the lowest setting. I thought it was just an old fan, but the new one has also done this, after several months. After looking, the switch has an open ground, could this be the problem? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
Open ground ??
Do you mean the switch is missing a ground wire ?
The ground is strictly for safety.
The fan will run fine without a ground at the fan or switch.

PJmax, thanks for the welcome and post. The ground in the switch is simply cut too short to reach the switch, and I wouldn't think this would affect the motor, but trying to eliminate as possible. Second fan to be fried in this location!

Is the switch backstabbed? If so the wires need to be moved to the screws. All wire nuts at the switch or fan need to be redone.
If the box id metal it only needs to go to the box. By NEC connection to the switch is optional if a metal box and a plastic cover plate. If the box is non metallic you can wire nut a length of bare or green insulated wire to it and connect to the switch. As Pete stated though it is not your problem.
