Ceiling Light/Fan Q

My wife says she wants a ceiling fan light combo put in our dining room... we currently have a switch with a dimmer, and this light. I would like to just pull off the light and put in the fan/light combo that doesnt have any chains.... but with my only having one switch, for the light and not one for the fan part, its not possible right?.....

It's not good to put a dimmer on a fan.

just pull off the light and put in the fan/light combo
The box the light is fastened to has to be fan rated. The one there probably isn't. Changing out the box can be easy depending on if you have cable or conduit.
but with my only having one switch, for the light and not one for the fan part, its not possible right?
Multiple ways to do it even if you only have 2-conductor cable to the switch. Easiest is a remote.

Ray, by box the light is fastened to, are you referring to the bracket/brace that keeps the item attached to the ceiling?

Ray is referring to the electric box IN the ceiling.
The item that connects the light to the box is a bracket or fixture bar.

You need to lower the light canopy and visually look at the box or remove the bar to give better visibility.
