Fan Wiring Problem

I have. Westinghoise ceiling fab with light. The fan has 3 speeds. The pull chain broke off inside the fan therefore I bought a new switch that can take 4 wires. When I wired it up the same way I took it off it only has high soeed amd low spees. There is not.a medium or an off. I matched up the L, 1, 2, 3 how thewy were on the okd switch. The new awitch is also made by Westinghoise so I an surorised it does not work. Any help is appreciated.

All the fan switches look alike however they are vastly different in operation. You must match the lettering and positions on the new switch to the old switch. The letters must be in the same location on the switch.

I did match the letters/numbers from the old switch. After closer looking. My old switch resembles the switch in your Center picture. My new switch resembles the switch in the Left picture. Should I ignore the letters/numbers and match them up based on location on the switch?
