How to pull the dial off a dimmer switch?

Not sure how to pull the dial off this dimmer switch so that I can put a cover plate over it.
I don't want to yank it hard in case it breaks, anyone recognize this and how to get it off?

I don't know how else to remove it besides yanking it. Why not completely remove the dimmer, if you aren't going to use it?

Just force pull it off. If it breaks you can buy replacement knobs.
