Adding mini LED lights to a full size table lamp

I am building a lamp and I was wanting to put a small light or a couple mini LED christmas lights in a glass dome on the base of a lamp, for a night light effect.

the main bulb of the lamp would be a typical A19 LED. I am putting a 3way turn key socket.

is it possible to wire these together without over powering the mini lights ?

Welcome to the forums.

Although putting LED lights in the base is do-able..... they can't connect to a standard three way socket. LED's run on low voltage which would require some type of power supply.

You might be able to do it if you use a full string of Christmas tree lights intended to be plugged into 120VAC. If you just want a few LED's in the base you will need a power supply for the LED's as all LED's run on low voltage DC. A19 and all other LED bulbs that screw into a standard light socket have the power supply built into the base of the bulb.

Ok, I will have to take a look at Lowes or Home Depot for some type of power supply and if it worth doing.

thank you very much !!

You could use an LED pilot light that runs on 120v. Something like this: Blue Sea Systems 8034 LED - 120V AC Green
