Recessed lighting suggestions

Hello,

I'm looking for recessed lighting remodel can light suggestions for my kitchen.

For the size of the room I'll be using 6 4" can lights. These will need to be iC rated as there's an attic with blown in insulation above. I also would like them to take an LED bulb.

Option 1: 4" recessed housing

Option 2: (I don't like these because it only take a retrofit LED housing - 4" Recessed housing

Option 3: (seems pricey) Halo 4" housing

Any others you would suggest?

Bad light switch

I have one of those lighted magnifying adjustable fluorescent lamps. It uses the type of switch that you must hold down for the lamp to warm-up before letting go. Today the switch outer body shorted against the lamp frame. Sparks flew. Taking apart the lamp no visible signs of damage to the switch. But you can see a slight dark spot on the frame where the short took place. The switch shows no signs of damage or scorching. This is a replacement switch that I installed many years ago. The switch seem fine, but is there any way of testing the switch using a VOM meter? I get continuity with the two black leads weather the button is pressed or not. I get no continuity with the blue wires with or without the button being pressed or with any combination with the black leads and/or button. Changing from remote controlled lighting to dimmer switch

When I bought my house, the kitchen fan/light fixture was controlled via a remote control that just stored on the wall with a 1-gang magnetic plate. No wiring to the remote or anything like that. The remote gives you variable fan speed, lights on/off and timers. That's great, but I don't like it. I knock the remote off the wall accidently all the time and it smashes in pieces on the tile floor. Additionally, I'd prefer some dimming options AND ability to control with Alexa. So I pulled the 1-gang magnetic wall plate off the wall and, like I figured, there's normal wiring behind there. Two romex enter the box, one 2-conductor and one 4-conductor, plus bare ground on both. All 3 whites are nutted together, all 3 blacks are nutted together and both grounds. To me, this means there's always power sent to the fan fixture and the fixture does all the switching. So I guess my question is, even I were to disconnect these wire, interrupt power and install a switch, that's not going to turn the lights on. The fan probably needs to be converted to stop using the remote control? I don't see anything like that anywhere on the fan. Looks like a normal fan to me. Help?Read More
