Kitchen sink light
I'm trying to replace a hard wired incandescent light fixture with an LED light fixture over the kitchen sink. Friends are telling me the new light fixture should have its own junction box and there should be a circuit breaker between it and the electrical panel. From what I have been reading, I don't need a junction box if the bare wires are contained within the light fixture and it has a wire clamp. Is this correct? I'm not sure about the circuit breaker between the electrical panel. Am I supposed to get a light fixture with a plug and install a gfci outlet? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the forums.
Not sure where you're located but sounds like a lot of misinformation there. Many fixtures have a built-in wiring area. If your fixture has a metal back with a standard 1/2" knockout.... then the cable can be connected directly to the fixture.
The electric panel contains the circuit protection. Not sure why you would need another one inline.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think it makes a difference but I'm located in Massachusetts. It seemed odd that it would be so complicated but I was getting nervous after talking with my friends.

No box
There was no box, just wires. it is a white cable coming out of the wall with a white, black, and bare wire. The condo was built in the 80's and the light was put in by a contractor about seven years ago. I'm not sure how to post a picture. It keeps asking for a URL.

If the new fixture is a fully enclosed fixture where all the wires and splices will be inside the fixture, you should be able to just run the cable (you have NM aka Romex) into the fixture using the proper NM connector.
However if you fixture has an open back, or the wires will not be fully enclosed in the fixture, you will need to add a junction box.

I looked for the "Advanced" button before but I couldn't find it. The directions showed it in the lower right hand corner but I'm not seeing it. I'm using a table so maybe that is the issue. Anyway it sounds like I never had anything to worry about. Thanks for your help.
