solar powered security light
I need an outdoor light in a tricky spot. It would take me some signifcant effort to get power to the location.
Has anyone used Solar Power motion lights before?
Am I setting myself up for disappointment by purchasing such a device?

If you expectations are low enough you will not be disappointed. Price can give you some guidance about quality, brightness and run time. A lot depends on how much light you want and how long you want the light to operate.

I've had good luck with the split units.
The solar panel gets mounted where it can get the best daylight.
Like Dane mentioned..... a better performer will be a little more costly.
Keep in mind that these units will only last a few years until they require battery replacement.

I'm not impressed with those ones you see on TV.

PD and PJ you both crack me up.
To the OP. If can put the solar cell in a reachable location it will be easy to maintain. As the two post above said the lighting will not be like an AC powered unit. It all depends on what you expect. A decent solar light will provide enough light to walk in the are. But you won't be able to do any work with the light.

Particularly those shown mounted tight against the soffit. Kinda hard for sunlight to reach it.

put up several inexpensive 20 led solar lights that seem to work well even in spots that may not get full sun but considering they only stay on like 20 seconds when motion is detected then go back off not really that draining on the battery, not a lot of light output either but enough to walk and see to unlock and open a door.
