Can a RESET Breaker wall outlet go bad?

I turned on the lights in the Master Bathroom and the lights came on for a moment and then shut off (as if a short happened). The RESET button in the wall socket also flipped OFF. I tried resetting the RESET button by pushing it in, but it won't stay in and remains OFF. No power sources are connected in the Master Bathroom. To test I plugged in an electric fan, but the RESET button still won't reset.

I assumed that the breaker in the basement must have flipped OFF. The breaker was still ON. I played with it, turning it OFF and ON, but the RESET button in the wall outlet still won't reset.

I now assumed the breaker in the basement was bad, so I replaced it. However, the RESET button in the wall outlet still won't reset and stay in when pressed.

I'm at a loss now and can't think of anything else to check before calling an electrician. Can the RESET outlet itself go bad?

It would be extremely odd to have a GFI receptacle in a bedroom unless you have very old wiring with no ground and someone wanted ground fault protection.

Yes... those receptacles can go bad.
