Bypassing/defeating a motion sensor on external spotlight
I have a spotlight on the outside of my house that was originally equipped with a motion sensor. That motion sensor has ceased working several years ago and The light will only come on for probably 15 seconds. I now just want to have that light on constantly when the inside wall switch it is on is activated.
The fixture guts are obviously inside the wall that has been sheet rocked and finished many years ago so I would like to just defeat the motion sensor instead of having to replace the entire fixture.
I have removed the motion sensor portion on the front of the fixture and I see a red wire a black wire and a white wire. From some basic reading I have read that the black wire is the incoming power and the red wire is the outgoing power when the motion switch is activated. So if I just want to have the light on constantly I should just be able to wire the black wire to the Red wire to complete that circuit correct? That should basically make the circuit complete all the time and take the motion sensor out of the loop if I am thinking properly correct? What if anything do I need to do with the White wire?
any answers and feedback would be appreciated thank you.
