Outlet won’t work with switch

I replaced two outlets in my living room. The bottom 1/2 of each outlet operated on the same switch. I rewired them exactly as they were before. I also removed the tab on the hot side of each outlet. I know the tab was sufficiently removed because the bottom outlet ceases to work when I remove the red wire. I initially did not touch the switch, but I did end up replacing it to see if the switch might have been the problem. It wasn’t. I have no clue why it doesn’t work. It seems like basic circuitry. There is only one switch that controls those outlets, so I am certain that I do not have another switch on somewhere else.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

A very easy job that can be complicated by convoluted wiring methods.

You should have found three wires on each receptacle..... is that correct ?
In this case white is neutral, black is switched and red is hot (working).
Were they working before the replacement ?

Figured it out

Hi, and thanks for the reply!

I figured out the problem. There was an additional outlet on a separate level (it’s a split-level house) but on the same wall. I replaced that outlet too but I did not realize that it was connected to the switch. I’ve never actually used that outlet before. I removed the tab on that one, and the switch works now! It was a super simple fix that took me three hours to figure out.
