Minka ceiling fan rewire

I have a Minka ceiling fan that has a wall controller that controls both the fan and light. I want to rewire the fan and light to let me use a separate switch for the fan and separate switch for the light. The wiring is present in the ceiling for separate switch control as there was with a prior ceiling fan. How can I redo the wiring at the fan to allow e to use the separate wires for the light apart from the fan?

Welcome to the forums.

If you have the ability to have two switches...... then you need to have a three wire cable w/ground between the switch box and the fan. You should have a red. white, black and bare ground.

Your fan may have been using a line control switch. It sends its commands over the two power wires. You would need to check and see if you can disable that receiver in the fan. You'd need to have three wires coming out of the fan.

But if it is a switch loop, power comes in at the fan, you may need a 4-conductor cable under latest code.
