Replacing Range Hood and moving from cabinets to ceiling?

I just removed our old range hood from the cabinets above our stove. I would like to remove the cabinets it was attached to as well and place the new range hood directly to the ceiling. However, there is an electric box (I’m not sure what it is but I attached images) attached to the cabinet and if the cabinets were removed I am not sure where I would put the box. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Daniel

If there is an attic above, it will likely need to go in the attic, nailed up where it is accessible above the insulation.

what is the yellow patch on the cover plate?

Before doing anything I would recommend picking out the hood you want. Then you can check the hoods installation instructions to see what is need to wire the new hood. I have had some you install a box similar to what you have which is concealed in the hoods chase, some that are direct wired, and others that use a cord and receptacle.
