Sounds like a faulty switch. Just unscrew or remove the bulb until you can get another.

Could be miswired. If the power feed was put to the socket instead of the switch it would bypass the switch.

Thanks! It would make it almost be similar to a wall socket, right?

More likely the switch on the bottom if it previously worked. Remove nut from bottom to remove socket. New socket example: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-...-051/100356978

You may need to remove the fixture to get enough slack in the wires to pull the lamp socket out. Be sure to turn breaker off first.
