Is a hot ceiling fan base normal

I have a fairly old ceiling fan with three candelabra lights. Iím trying to figure out where a strange smell is coming from in the house around that area. I noticed that the three bulbs and sockets and the fan base are VERY hot. Is this normal? I canít tell if the smell is emanating from this fan but am unsure if the hotness is normal. Thanks

By fan base...... do you mean the canopy at the ceiling ?
I'd imagine if you're running three 60 watt lamps..... they could be hot.
Is this fan remote controlled ?

Yes. The canopy. But each glass housing for the bulbs is very very hot also. In the past, Iíve had some bulbs break off and I had to pick the metal screw part of the bulb out of the socket. These bulbs seem dim also.
