3 way switch issue

I am trying to make a 3 way switch work as it should, however on the second switch, we will call it switch b, it needs to be in a certain position for switch a to work. Any ideas what is going wrong here?

Welcome to the forums.

Pictures of the wiring on both switches is usually the best way to get the quickest results. If we can't get you going..... pics of both switches will help....... How-to-insert-pictures

There are three screws on a three way switch. ONLY the dark screw is important. It is the common terminal. The other two wires are the traveler wires. Look at the three wires on that problem switch. Two wires WILL go into one common cable jacket. Those are the travelers. The remaining wire is the C terminal wire. If there are only three wires in that box and all three are on the switch...... you will need to look at the other switch to see which two colrs are the travelers. The travelers will travel in the same cable and usually be the same color at both ends.
