Installing new dimmer switch

I did the wrong thing and didn't watch which wires were on the old switch. I have 3 black wires. I know two where on the same screw and the other was by itself. I am attaching pictures of wires and new switch. If I put a voltage tester on the top two wires it lights up and no other combination lights up the tester. The new switch has a black common on one side and 2 brass screws on the other side as top single pole and bottom 3way. Help would be appreciated.

Hi, are you wiring this as a 3 way, or single pole? Are there other things not working in the area of this switch?

You have 3) two wire cables. Power in, power out and the light.

The two short black wires go to the common terminals.
The long black wire goes to the single pole switch terminal.
The three way terminal is not used.
Ground needs to be connected.

Is it safe to use the 2 holes for the 2 wires at the black common screw?

You can use both holes for the wires or you could connect those two black wires together with a tail to go to the switch.

Well I wired it and the lights come on but switch doesn't turn the light off and dimmer isn't working. The switch will turn off another light nearby which is plugged into an outlet.

Then one of those two black wires is the light and not a feed.
